Frontline Leader Tips:

Below are 20 frontline leader tips.  What is described in these tips begins to form the continuous improvement framework at the frontline.  Two specific components described are the daily meeting and problem solving. These tips were run daily through our social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc).  If you’re interested in receiving small tips (and much more) follow KCOE on Facebook, Twitter, and many other social media sites.

#20  Get your team together, same time, same place.

#19  Ask your team if they have any safety concerns and if there were any incidents or accidents yesterday.

#18  Ask your team if they received or passed along a defect yesterday.

#17  Ask your team if the  production goal was met yesterday.

#16  Ask your team if they have everything they need to get their job done.

#15  Check for attendance by asking during your daily meeting.

#14  Ask your team if they have any suggestions.

#13  Ask for any cost issues: scrap, unplanned expenses, etc.

#12  Help your team contain problems, but also have them fill out a problem solving sheet. (don’t have one? – message me)

#11  Be ready and willing to hear problems from your team – it’s the only way to make improvements.

#10  Do problem solving sheets yourself; be an example to the team below you and the team above you.

#9  Go see, get the facts, and grasp the situation!

#8  After doing the 3G’s, see if you and your team can find the root cause of the problem (don’t pick a huge problem at first!)

#7  Put countermeasures (solutions) in place in order to remove the root cause that you’ve identified.

#6  Identify how you are going to “check” to see if the problem reoccurred.  Visualize this check.

#5  Continue doing your daily meeting, continue to ask for problems and problem solving sheets from your team.

#4  Be patient and be passionate with the people you lead!

#3  Once you’re good at problem solving and daily meeting, ask your leader/supervisor to come and see your process.

#2  Pick another problem, see if you can coach your peers on problem solving.

#1 Frontline leader tip of the day: Find and trust a good coach/mentor to bring you back to the plumb line – i.e. the system of continuous improvement.
